October is Elk-tober!

Estes Park officals admit it's a marketing ploy- but one that takes advantage of a plentiful local resource.  October has been declared "Elk-tober" in Estes Park.

"This is just a fun way to look at and use one of the assets that make Estes Park what it is", said Town administrator Randy Repola at Tuesday night's board meeting.  "It is a promotional tool and a fun way to acknowledge how important elk are to the local economy".

The resolution noted that October, the height of the elk rut or mating season, holds numerous opportunities for visitors to view and enjoy elk throughout the Estes Valley.

Trustee Richard Homeier asked if the Town should consider taking the idea further and look at promoting the community as the "elk capitol of Colorado."

"No other place in Colorado has the concentration of elk that we do here in the Estes Valley", said Homeier.
