10/14/07 Snow Closes Trail Ridge Road |
In the eary afternoon of Saturday October 13th, Trail Ridge Road was closed due to snowfall.
Trail Ridge Road (HWY 34) is closed indefinitely as of Saturday, October 13th due to more than 6 inches of fresh snow deposited on this seasonally open highway which spans the Continental Divide in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Trailridge Road crosses from the east side of the Continental Divide just south of the Fall RIver Canyon to the west side at Grand Lake, and is typically closed from mid-October until mid-May each year when winter snows block this highest passage across the Rockies Mountain Range. This east-west highway is often closed seasonally when new snow or ice makes this vertigous two-lane road too hazardous for auto traffic.
