The west, south, and east faces of Notchtop Spire contain routes of difficulties from 5.7 to 5.11 on this gneiss composed tower.  The Ptarmigan Valley which sits at the base of this imposing buttress is one of the windier spots in a usually windy Rocky Mountain National Park.  The approach to Notchtop is an approximate 2 hr. hike from the Bear Lk. trailhead and the spire sits just north of the less-visited Lake Helene.
