Jason Mines checking out the east face of Longs Peak, Colorado on June 9th, 2008.
After completing the classic alpine route Martha, in which we found completely neve snow and thick ice conditions from top to bottom, we scrambled to the summit of Mt. Lady Washington (13,281') for an even better view of the east and north faces of the adjacent Longs Peak (14,256'). There was significant new snow on the east face since Jason and I had completed our May 30th climb of the Notch Couloir; the obvious cleft which strikes a gash in the heart of this magnificent east face. The North Face of Longs looked well snow covered following a winter storm on June 5th, and The Window ice route looked about ready for action.
