A bull elk avoids the hunters and the wind while sitting it out on Pole Hill, Estes Park
With the Elk rut done for the season, this large bull is one of a group of six males travelling together while licking their wounds from the losses in this year's contest for the females of the herd. The winner takes all in this contact event for genetic domination.
