The Dragontail Ridge is a dramatic "saw blade" along the south face of Flattop Mtn.
The Dragontail Ridge splits the Dead Elk Couloir on the left (slayed by the Dragon, no doubt) and the Dragontail Couloir to the right (east). This entire south face of Flattop Mountain is a dramatice aspect of striking couloirs divided by jagged rock ridges. Sitting opposite the steep cliff of the North Buttress of Hallett Peak, these two mountain sides frame the boulder-filled valley of the Tyndall Gorge and Emerald Lake, which is just 2 miles from the Bear Lake trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. This dramatic gorge is one of many scenic and steep-sided valleys in one of America's great national parks. This photo was taken from the east buttress of Hallett Peak on 4/26/08.
